Insider tips from Swissbankers

As an enthusiastic hiker, what hiking tips do you have?

First and foremost, sturdy hiking boots, sufficient drinking fluid and functional outdoor clothing are recommended. It is worth taking a look at the weather forecast here. Depending on the situation, a change of clothes and suitable shoes can be chosen. To avoid shoulder-neck problems, it is also recommended to place the centre of gravity close to the body and shoulder area when packing the backpack.

What equipment do hikers need?

Actually, little equipment is enough to keep the carrying weight low and the fun of movement high. Investing in a comfortable backpack with a good back system pays off. If you want, you can set off with hiking poles. On scree or snow fields, these do a good job and contribute to better balance and relief for the joints. To avoid blisters, a blister plaster can be applied before the hike. Last but not least, a first aid kit and a charged mobile phone are helpful in emergencies.

How can you be stylish while hiking?

The motto here is: "Form follows Function". The onion look is recommended. Different layers of quick-drying and breathable material are best for heat, wind and cold. The individual layers can be colour-coordinated. Thanks to colourful clothing, it is also easier to be spotted.

Which apps would you recommend to hikers?

I regularly use SwitzerlandMobility. The app offers good map material and is ideal for planning routes. If you not only want to enjoy the mountain panorama, but also find out about the names of the peaks, the best app to use is PeakFinder. If I need an idea for a tour, I get inspiration from Komoot.

What is your favourite food on hiking tours?

On the road, I usually have a fruit, almonds or pistachios and some banana bread. Sometimes I prepare a couscous salad the night before. In between, however, it can also be something heartier like a raclette.

Do you know a fun fact about hiking?

The people of Graubünden are said to be the fastest hikers in Switzerland. This apparently stems from the fact that in the past, in order to measure the different hiking times in the canton of Graubünden, it was mainly top-fit mountain hikers who were sent out, while in other areas the routes were hiked by volunteers or families.

Which of the eight hikes is your favourite?

Each of the hikes has its own special appeal. Spontaneously, I would recommend the hike in Val da Camp to Lagh di Saoseo. The colours of nature are breathtakingly beautiful there in autumn and are perfect for photo shoots.
