What cover is included in the travel insurance?

With TravelProtect, the Swiss Bankers Travel Card is supplemented by travel insurance that can provide an extra sense of security in many typical travel situations. This includes the following cover, amongst others:

  • Cancellation: Sometimes things come up at the last minute before you’re due to set off. If you are unable to go on your trip due to an insured event such as illness, an accident, a death or serious damage to your home, TravelProtect will cover the non-refundable travel costs.
  • Delayed departure: Even when you’re really looking forward to your trip, not every journey goes exactly to plan. If you have to depart later than planned due to an insured event, TravelProtect will cover any additional costs as well as services you were unable to use because of the delay.
  • Trip interruption: It is particularly unfortunate if a trip has to be unexpectedly cut short or ended early. In such cases, TravelProtect covers additional transport, accommodation and meal costs, as well as the unused portion of the travel services.
  • Damage to luggage: Luggage is an essential part of any trip – and it’s all the more reassuring to know that you’re covered should any problems arise. If your luggage is damaged, TravelProtect will cover the costs of repair or replacement, depending on the nature of the claim, up to the specified cover limit. If it is stolen, replacement is also possible; an official police report is required for this.
  • Delayed luggage: Especially at the start of your holiday, it’s helpful if a delayed suitcase doesn’t immediately cause additional stress. If your luggage arrives at your destination more than four hours late, TravelProtect will cover the cost of necessary replacement purchases such as clothing and toiletries.

The maximum cover is up to CHF 10,000 per claim for cancellation, delayed departure and trip interruption, and up to CHF 5,000 per claim for damage to or delay of luggage.

Who is covered and what are the terms and conditions?

To ensure you can set off on holiday with peace of mind, it’s worth activating your travel cover in good time and familiarising yourself with the key requirements. This way, it’s clear from the outset under what conditions TravelProtect can be used. Above all, it is important that the insurance cover has been activated before payment is made and that the trip or the relevant services have been paid for in full using the insured Swiss Bankers Travel Card. The card itself must also be valid at the time the claim is made.

As insurance cover begins the day after activation, it is advisable to arrange your travel insurance early on in the planning process. Activation is a one-off process carried out in the Swiss Bankers app: to do this, you order the Travel Card, top it up with at least CHF/EUR/USD 1,000 and activate the travel cover in the app.

How to report a claim whilst travelling

Although, of course, everything should go as smoothly as possible when travelling, it’s helpful to know the key steps to take in the event of a claim. By following the correct procedure, many situations can be dealt with much more easily and calmly.

It is important to document the incident as soon as possible and to report the claim promptly. It is also helpful to keep hold of the most important booking confirmations, receipts and supporting documents. Depending on the situation, a confirmation from the travel or transport company – or, in the event of theft, an official police report – may also be required.

Claims are submitted via Europ Assistance. Reporting the incident early and having the relevant documents to hand creates the best conditions for the claim to be processed as smoothly as possible.
