Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Overview of services

Which trips are covered?

With Travel Insurance, you’re fully covered: this includes cancellation, delayed departure, trip interruption, as well as damage to, loss of and delay of luggage. This means you can travel flexibly, safely and with peace of mind.

Private (leisure) trips lasting up to 90 days are covered. The trip must include at least one overnight stay or be more than 30 km from your place of residence. Business or medical trips are not covered.

What are the performance limits?

The insurance covers costs up to the maximum amounts specified in the benefits overview – for example, up to CHF 10,000 for cancellation, delayed departure and trip interruption, and up to CHF 5,000 for damage to or loss of luggage.

Where is the insurance valid?

The travel insurance cover applies worldwide, with the exception of a few countries that are excluded from cover under the terms and conditions of the policy. You travel with full cover almost everywhere.

What cover is provided in the event of trip cancellation or delayed departure?

TravelProtect covers costs in the event of:

  • Accident, illness, pregnancy complications or death of the insured person or a close relative
  • Serious damage to the insured person’s home
  • Theft of important travel documents shortly before departure
  • Extraordinary circumstances at the destination

The maximum benefit is CHF 10,000 per claim.

Are there any exclusions for events caused by pandemics or war?

Yes. Claims relating to pandemics, epidemics, quarantine measures, war, civil unrest or force majeure are excluded.

Cancellation, Postponement & Delay

When am I covered against cancellation?

If you are unable to go on your trip due to an insured event – e.g. illness, accident, death or serious damage to your home – the insurance will reimburse your non-refundable travel costs.

Am I covered if my departure is delayed?

Yes. If you have to delay your departure due to an insured event, the insurance will cover any additional costs as well as any services you were unable to use as a result of the delay.

What cover do I have if my trip is interrupted?

If you have to cut your trip short or return home early, the travel insurance will cover additional transport, accommodation and meal costs, as well as the unused portion of your travel services.

What is covered if a trip is interrupted?

In the event of an early or delayed return, TravelProtect covers additional accommodation, meal and transport costs, as well as the unused portion of the trip (excluding return transport), also up to a maximum of CHF 10,000 per claim.

Luggage protection

Is my luggage covered?

Yes. The cover includes damage, loss, theft or robbery of personal luggage during the trip. The maximum payout is CHF 5,000 per claim. An excess of CHF 200 may apply.

What happens if your luggage is damaged?

If your luggage is damaged during your trip, the insurance will cover the costs of repair or replacement – up to the specified limit of cover, depending on the nature of the claim.

What does ‘delayed luggage’ mean?

If your luggage arrives more than 4 hours after your arrival at your destination, necessary expenses for clothing and toiletries will be reimbursed up to CHF 5,000 per case. This does not apply to the return journey.

Am I covered if my luggage is stolen?

Yes. If your luggage is stolen, you will be compensated for the value of the stolen items or for repairs. An official police report is required.

What does the baggage delay cover?

If your luggage arrives at your destination more than four hours late, Travel Insurance will cover the cost of necessary replacement items such as clothing and toiletries.

Activation & Prerequisites

What requirements must be met for a service?

  • The insurance must have been active before payment.
  • 100% of the trip must have been paid for with the insured Swiss Bankers card.
  • The card and insurance must be valid at the time of the claim.
  • Damage liabilities (e.g. reporting, receipts) must be observed.

When is the insurance coverage valid?

The insurance coverage begins on the day after the insurance is activated in the Swiss Bankers App – provided that the card and the collective agreement are valid. It ends, for example, when the card expires, the account is closed, or the insurance is deactivated.

What is the minimum top-up amount required to use TravelProtect?

Top up your Travel Card with CHF/EUR/USD 1,000 – and you’ll be covered by TravelProtect for a whole year at no extra cost.

How do I activate my travel cover?

Travel cover must be activated once in the Swiss Bankers app. Cover begins the day after activation.

Do I have to pay for the journey using the Travel Card?

No.

Do I need to top up an additional CHF/EUR/USD 1,000, or is my existing balance of that amount sufficient?

The Travel Card must have a balance of at least CHF/EUR/USD 1,000. Once this balance is reached, Travel Protect can be activated for twelve months.
