Saas-Fee, often affectionately referred to as the ‘Pearl of the Alps’, is far more than just a classic ski resort. This car-free, high-alpine village in Valais enchants visitors with its panoramic views of four-thousand-metre peaks and its charming, traditional atmosphere. In this blog post, we’ll show you what makes the Saas-Fee ski resort so special – from guaranteed snow and a variety of slopes to village life, as well as tips for families, connoisseurs and your next winter holiday.

Saas-Fee Ski Resort at a Glance

The Saas-Fee ski resort is one of Switzerland’s best-known winter sports destinations. This high-alpine resort in Valais is set amidst an impressive backdrop of four-thousand-metre peaks and, thanks to its location on the glacier, offers excellent snow conditions from autumn through to spring. The slopes stretch from the village of Saas-Fee up to Mittelallalin and the Allalin Glacier.

  • Around 100 km of ski runs of all levels of difficulty – from numerous easy and intermediate runs right through to challenging runs for experienced winter sports enthusiasts. Ideal for beginners, families and experienced skiers and snowboarders.
  • 23 lifts: gondola lifts, mountain railways, chairlifts and ski lifts ensure well-coordinated connections throughout the entire ski area.
  • Highest point: Mittelallalin at around 3,500 m, with glacier runs and a breathtaking panorama of numerous four-thousand-metre peaks.
  • Metro Alpin: the world’s highest underground funicular takes you comfortably from Felskinn up to Mittelallalin – straight into the heart of the glacier area.
  • Car-free mountain village: Saas-Fee has restricted traffic, and many accommodation options are within walking distance of the cable cars – short distances, plenty of time on the slopes.

Saas-Fee Ski Resort: 2025/2026 winter season

To help you plan your winter holiday, here is a concise overview of the season dates and ski pass prices in the Saas-Fee ski resort.

  • Saas-Fee – Main Ski Resort: Official winter season runs from 1 November 2025 to 19 April 2026. Thanks to the glacier, numerous slopes are already open in autumn, meaning skiing is possible over a very long period.
  • Peak season / classic winter season: Most visitors come between December and March, when the entire area, including the valley runs, is generally in full operation – ideal for Christmas holidays, school holidays and spring skiing until mid- to late March.
  • Other areas in the Saas Valley (accessible with a destination ski pass): Saas-Grund & Saas-Almagell: winter season from 20 December 2025 to 6 April 2026; Saas-Balen: expected to run from 22 December 2025 to 15 March 2026
  • Summer and autumn skiing: Depending on conditions, skiing is possible on the Feegletscher as early as summer or autumn; according to Switzerland Tourism, the official season runs from 19 July 2025 to 19 April 2026.

Saas-Fee ski pass: Prices & guide prices for winter 2025/26:

  • Saas-Fee day passes: Adults: approx. CHF 83; Young people: approx. CHF 71; Children: approx. CHF 42
  • Multi-day ski passes (2–14 days, Saas-Fee): Adults from approx. CHF 160 to around CHF 713, depending on duration and season.
  • Saas-Fee/Saastal Destination Ski Pass: Valid for around 150 km of slopes throughout the Saastal valley – including Saas-Fee, Saas-Grund and Saas-Almagell. A 6-day ski pass for adults is available from CHF 422.–.

Money-saving tips for ski passes

  • Dynamic online prices & early-bird discounts: If you book your ski pass early via the online shop, you’ll usually benefit from lower rates than at the ticket office. The principle is simple: the earlier you book, the cheaper it is.
  • Package deals including hotel + ski pass: Many accommodation providers in the Saas Valley offer packages where ski passes are already included in the price. This makes budgeting easier and is often cheaper than booking separately.
  • Magic Pass (for frequent skiers): The Magic Pass is well worth it for anyone who skis regularly throughout the season. Depending on the season, it covers numerous ski resorts in French-speaking Switzerland, the Valais and other regions – including Saas-Fee, where it is valid for skiing from the start of the winter season (1 November). For winter 2025/26, the Magic Pass costs CHF 786 for adults and CHF 366 for children (price guaranteed until 9 December 2025). 
  • Resident’s Pass & regional season/network passes: Many guests receive a Resident’s Pass through their accommodation, which offers discounts on mountain railways and public transport in the Saas Valley – in some cases even outside the winter season. In addition, regional season or network passes may be worth considering, particularly if you are staying in the region for a longer period.

Saas-Fee ski slopes: magical skiing at 3,600 metres with guaranteed snow

The ski slopes in Saas-Fee reach up to around 3,600 metres and offer an impressive variety across a total of around 100 km of runs: around 20 km of blue, 60 km of red and 20 km of black runs. The north-facing aspect of many slopes and the proximity to the glacier mean that in Saas-Fee you can often enjoy good snow conditions and powder snow for longer than in many other ski resorts.

Ski resort for beginners and leisure skiers (blue runs): The Saas-Fee ski resort offers ideal areas for newcomers and anyone who wants to take it easy:

  • Fee Glacier: Despite the altitude, the upper part of the glacier offers wide, gentle slopes – perfect for practising and for long, enjoyable turns.
  • Beginners’ area in the valley: In the lower section near the village, there are easily accessible practice lifts and gentle slopes that provide a safe introduction to skiing.

Slopes for advanced and experienced skiers (red runs)

  • Panoramic runs: Red runs descending from Längfluh or the upper gondola stations offer magnificent views of the surrounding four-thousand-metre peaks and are ideal for picking up speed and challenging your leg muscles.
  • Downhill runs to Saas-Fee: A classic is the red run from Spielboden down to the car-free village – long, challenging and often perfectly groomed well into spring.

Challenges for experts (black runs & ski routes)

  • Run No. 15 ‘Black Bull’: One of the best-known and steepest black runs in the area.
  • Ski routes: Marked routes offering a deep-snow experience in secured terrain for very experienced skiers.

Mittelallalin highlight (approx. 3,500 m): First, take the gondola to Felskinn; from there, the Metro Alpin – the world’s highest underground funicular – takes you straight up to Mittelallalin. At the top, the runs start at over 3,500 m in the heart of the glacier area – here you can enjoy high-alpine panoramic views and, often as early as late autumn, excellent snow conditions.

Tip for snowboarders and freestylers: the snow park at Morenia with kickers, rails and boxes – one of the highest snow parks in the Alps and a popular meeting place for the scene, often open from autumn onwards.

More than just skiing: winter activities in Saas-Fee

As well as classic downhill skiing on the slopes, the ‘Pearl of the Alps’ offers a diverse range of winter activities that combine action, relaxation and unique high-alpine experiences. The car-free village and the crisp mountain air create a relaxed atmosphere in which all these activities can be enjoyed even more fully.

  • Winter walking, snowshoeing & cross-country skiing: Around Saas-Fee and in the Saas Valley, there are numerous groomed winter walking routes and marked snowshoe trails – ideal for experiencing the snow-covered mountain landscape at your own pace. Cross-country skiers will find trails in the valley from mid-December to the end of March (depending on temperatures and snow conditions). When there is enough snow, around 23 km of trails are available for classic and skating styles, which can be easily combined with a winter walk or a stop for refreshments.
  • Sledging & family fun in the snow: Several sledge runs offer plenty of variety – from gentle slopes for young children to longer, more winding routes for older children and adults. A particular highlight is night-time tobogganing. Even more appealing for families: children up to the age of 16 can toboggan for free at night.
  • Ice, Glaciers & Unforgettable Experiences: Saas-Fee is renowned for its world of ice and glaciers. Ice pavilions, glacier experiences and guided tours offer fascinating insights into the world of ice and snow – a highlight even for guests who don’t ski. A highlight is the guided glacier tour across the Feegletscher. The tour lasts around 4–5 hours and costs CHF 680 per tour for 1–2 people.
  • Ice skating, curling, ice stock skating & ice rinks in the village: In the village, various ice rinks invite you to go ice skating, play ice hockey, go curling and try your hand at ice stock skating. Especially in the afternoon or evening, this is an atmospheric alternative to skiing – ideal for families and groups too. A booking is required for curling and Swiss curling, as the rinks can only be used by prior arrangement.
  • An atmospheric extra: torchlight walk: Organised torchlight walks are particularly atmospheric: After dark, you’ll set off with burning torches through the snow-covered winter landscape around Saas-Fee – a peaceful, very atmospheric experience for couples, families and groups. Torches are available from the tourist offices for CHF 5 each
  • Wellness & indulgence: Many hotels in Saas-Fee have modern wellness areas with a sauna, steam room and pool. After a day out in the snow, you can relax there or round off the evening in one of the village’s restaurants and bars.

Saas-Fee: a car-free mountain village

Much of Saas-Fee’s charm lies in the village itself: car-free, compact and with plenty of places that are easily reached on foot.

Arriving & getting about: Your car stays in the multi-storey car park at the village entrance (subject to a charge, roughly CHF 10–15 per day depending on the length of your stay and your guest card); from there, you can continue on foot or by electric taxi. Many hotels collect their guests by electric shuttle directly from the car park or the bus stop and take them back again at the end of their stay.

Restaurants with atmosphere: Despite its compact size, Saas-Fee offers a surprisingly diverse range of dining options. Particularly popular examples include:

  • Waldhüs Bodmen: A picturesque panoramic restaurant in a classic mountain chalet, accessible via an idyllic forest path. It serves traditional Swiss home-style cooking, local specialities and seasonal game dishes.

  • Restaurant STEINBOCK: A cosy restaurant, highly regarded for its quality and friendly service.

  • The Capra – Brasserie 1809: modern Alpine cuisine at the design hotel The Capra, with a focus on regional, sustainably sourced ingredients and a very harmonious atmosphere. 

There are also numerous other options, ranging from pizzerias to fondue restaurants – perfect for strolling through the village after a day’s skiing and popping in on a whim.

Hotels close to the slopes & village life: Many accommodation options are within walking distance of the ski lifts or offer their own shuttle service – so the journey to the slopes is short. The following hotels, for example, are particularly recommended as they offer an ideal combination of location, comfort and facilities:

  • The Capra Saas-Fee: An elegant hotel with a spa, swimming pool and its own shuttle service to the lifts, just a few minutes’ walk from the village centre.

  • Walliserhof Grand Hotel & Spa: A modern 5-star grand hotel with a 2,100 m² spa area. It offers several restaurants and is regarded as a top destination for holistic relaxation and luxurious service.

  • Hotel Allalin: Also centrally located and often praised for its family-friendly atmosphere and good value for money.
