Requirements & Cover

Who is covered by the shopping insurance?

Cover is provided to holders of a Swiss Bankers Life card who have activated the insurance in the app and whose card is valid.

When does the shopping insurance apply?

The insurance cover comes into effect as soon as it is activated in the Swiss Bankers app and the purchase has been paid for in full using the Life card.

Which purchases are covered by the insurance?

For private purchases (not for business purposes) of movable property bought in Switzerland, the EU or the EEA – subject to the terms of the insurance cover.

What is not covered?

The insurance will not take effect if:

  • the purchase was made before the insurance was activated
  • the item was not paid for in full using the card
  • the purchase falls under any exclusions (e.g. second-hand goods, food, motor vehicles)

Does the insurance need to be activated?

Yes. Life ShopProtect must be active before shopping (e.g. in the Swiss Bankers App). This is the only way to ensure insurance coverage for the respective purchase.

It covers purchases for up to 10 days after the date of purchase against: Theft Damage Destruction

What conditions must be met?

  • Purchase price of at least CHF 50
  • Purchase in Switzerland, the EU or the EEA
  • Items for personal use

What is the level of cover?

Up to CHF 2,000 per claim.

What is excluded?

These include:

  • normal wear and tear
  • manufacturing defects
  • animals and plants
  • food
  • motor vehicles
  • second-hand goods
  • cash, securities, tickets

What should I do if I make a claim?

  • Police report in the event of theft
  • Submit original receipts
  • Report the loss as soon as possible

Best Price Guarantee

What is the best price guarantee?

If you find an identical product on offer at a lower price within 14 days of purchase, we will refund the difference (minimum difference of CHF 30).

Which purchases are covered?

  • Purchases in Switzerland
  • From a commercial retailer
  • Movable property & event tickets

What is excluded?

For example:

  • Mobile phones
  • Medical devices (glasses, hearing aids, prosthetics, etc.)
  • Second-hand goods
  • Transport tickets (train, flight, hire car)
  • Offers marked as discounted (‘Sale’)

What documents do I need?

  • Original invoice
  • Proof of a cheaper, identical offer

Non-compliant delivery

When am I covered in the event of delivery problems?

The following is covered:

  • Non-delivery (no contact from the retailer after 60 days)
  • Late delivery, meaning the goods are no longer required
  • Goods delivered incorrectly, incompletely or damaged

Which costs are covered?

Up to CHF 2,000 per claim:

  • Purchase price
  • Return delivery costs (if the retailer does not cover these)

Which products are covered?

  • movable goods
  • min. CHF 50 (incl. VAT, excl. delivery costs)
  • Delivery from Switzerland, the EU or the EEA

What is excluded?

For example:

  • Strikes among transport providers
  • Incorrect or invalid delivery address
  • Goods that have not yet been paid for

What do I need to do?

  • Contact the retailer in writing within 30 days
  • Submit evidence of your attempts to contact them
  • Confirmation that the goods were not delivered

Which products are not insured?

The following are not insured, among others:

  • used or second-hand goods
  • Cash, vouchers, securities
  • Vehicles, food, animals, plants
  • normal wear and tear or material defects
  • Damage caused by improper use

Extended warranty

What does the extended warranty cover?

An additional year’s manufacturer’s warranty for eligible electrical appliances.

Which items are insured?

Newly purchased appliances (min. CHF 100), e.g.:

  • Household appliances (white goods)
  • Consumer electronics (brown goods)
  • Computers/IT (grey goods)

What is excluded?

These include:

  • improper use normal wear and tear
  • external factors
  • gas-powered
  • appliances rented or leased appliances manufacturer recalls

What documents are required?

  • Serial number
  • Original invoice
  • Manufacturer's warranty terms and conditions

Claims & Contact

What does the extended warranty cover?

  • Extension of the manufacturer’s warranty by 12 months after it has expired
  • Repair costs for mechanical, electrical or electronic faults
  • Replacement of the appliance if repair is not economically viable or technically possible
  • Costs up to the agreed sum insured (e.g. CHF 2,000 per claim, depending on the contract)

What documents do I need to submit?

Depending on the nature of the claim:

  • Proof of purchase
  • Police report (in the event of theft)
  • Photos of the damage or the delivery
  • Written attempts to contact the retailer
  • Serial number (for extended warranty claims)

Is there a deadline?

Yes – any issues must be reported immediately. In the event of delivery problems, you have 30 days to notify the retailer.
